85 pounds of heart, hope, and absolutely no understanding of personal space.

Chewy’s story began in New Zealand, where his dad adopted him at four months old. They were rarely apart. Then his dad passed away, and Chewy’s entire world changed.

But dogs are remarkably resilient. Chewy found his way back to joy—and this boy has a lot of it to share.

Chewy is four years old and possibly a Dogo Argentino/American Bully mix, but he is unquestionably 100% good boy. He is house-trained, knows basic commands, walks nicely with a confident handler, and learned to settle in his crate in under two days. He loves other dogs, sharing his toys, car rides, adventures, couch-potato days, giant sloppy kisses, and making the strange little noises that earned him his full name.

Chewy believes he weighs 8.5 pounds and belongs in your lap. At times, however, he remembers that he is still an excitable baby—and 85 pounds of enthusiasm can include an accidental headbutt. He needs an experienced big-dog owner who will continue his training and give him loving, consistent boundaries.

He grew up with a cat, although compatibility with new cats is not guaranteed. He has not been tested with children, so a home without little ones would be safest. Respectful older kids comfortable with his size and slobber may be a good fit.

Chewy doesn’t need pity. He needs stability, patience, adventure, a sturdy lap, and someone who will stay.

He lost his person, but he never lost his ability to love.

Now he’s ready to give that love to someone new.
