Twinkie is a 12-pound Chihuahua-Dachshund mix with a soft heart and a cautious approach to the world. At around 1–2 years old, he’s still building confidence and learning that life can be safe, predictable, and kind.

He came to us from a rural shelter and was previously returned for being too shy, but in his foster home, a different side of him is already beginning to emerge. Twinkie is slowly coming out of his shell, just on his own timeline.

His crate is his comfort zone and safe place, and he does best with steady routines and gentle, patient people who understand that trust can’t be rushed. With consistency and regular potty breaks, his housetraining is coming along nicely.

Twinkie enjoys the company of other dogs, especially calm, confident dogs his own size who help him feel secure without overwhelming him. A well-balanced canine companion could really help him continue gaining confidence.

This little guy does not need someone to “fix” him. He needs someone willing to meet him where he’s at, respect his pace, and celebrate the quiet victories along the way.

With patience, predictability, and kindness, Twinkie is going to blossom into a deeply loyal little companion.
